Hi
This is Takanori Tomita
from DSFY.com:
Japanese Language Newsletter.
With my Japanese tips,
& Japanese Language newsletter, I will
explain about Japanese language tips, hints,
suggestions and advice. So, let's start with
today's topic.
------------------------------
Japanese language is cooool!!
------------------------------
Japanese is cool language.
It's a well-developed language similar to
European language in grammer and to Chinese
in scripts.
You might have heard about kanji. If you have
seen the LAST SAMURAI movie, you might have
noticed many kanji words. That sort of Japanese
symbols are historically developed by Chinese
in the 14th century.
But, unlike spoken Chinese,
formal Japanese tends to be monotonal, although
one syllable in every word is always stressed
more than the others.
----------------------------------------------------------
Tips for those people who are learning Japanese
language.
----------------------------------------------------------
In speech, the Japanese prefer to be indirect.
You know, american style straight from the
shoulder frankness is sometimes considered
rude, especially with older Japanese people.
Young people don't really care about it, but
with older people, you need to understand
that.
So, be careful!
Conversational sentences
are thus longer than in English. This indirectness
often appears in the written form.
-----------------------------------------------------
Japanese is easy to learn to speak?! But not
to write.
-----------------------------------------------------
I often hear that ambiguities
make Japanese a challenging language for a
foreigner to master.
I don't think so.
Japanese is relatively easy to learn to SPEAK
at beginner's level when compared other language
such as English and Chinese. That's why I
see many foreigners speak Japanese fluently
in Japan.
But, I think writing in
Japanese is VERY hard!
Why?
Because we have 3 different scritps to use
for writing.
It depends on a situation to be used.
