Takanori Tomita's Japanese Tips
[How can I translate my Japanese surname?]

Issued by: DSFY.com

===============================================

Q: My surname is Japanese.
Can you translate it and create Japanese symbols?
James Suzuki

+++ Takanori Tomita's Response +++

Writing a person's name with *Katakana
and *Hiragana scripts should all be the same.
It doesn't matter whether you are Westen,
Japanese or European.
However, there are many ways to write names
with [*KANJI] scripts.
Like my name, there are so many people who
have got different kanji scripts even though
the name, takanori, is the same as others.

It depends on who decide your name in Japanese.
Japanese people's surname is usually derived
from ancestor, and already decided when we are born.
On the ohter hand, first name are usually
given by their parents, grandparents or sometimes
their parents ask fortunetellers.

For western people, it depends on who you ask
to design your name.
Of course, there are different ways to translate
your name.

1. Phonetic translation, and
2. literal translation.

In our age, it is common to translate western
people's name by using phonetic translation.
That's what the majority of western people have
thier name in Japan.

So, if your surname is Japanese, I suggest you to ask
your Japanese side of parents first, and come back to
my service. If you would like to see the example of
western person's Japanese name, check this site:
